about

This album was written between 2008 and 2009, and is partially recorded. In 2009 I decided to switch to focusing on my other project "Subterranean" because I believed I could more quickly write, record and produce that EP, and then come back and finish this album. Unfortunately, due to various life circumstances, Subterranean took a year and a half to complete, and by the time it was done, I was very burned out musically. I have intended to finish recording this album since, but 5 years later, obviously that seems very unlikely to happen. So I've decided that since the music is largely complete, even though there are no vocals, I am just going to release the demos for people to hear, because I do think these are good ideas and I do want people to get to hear them. I am uncertain if I will ever formally complete this album.

Track Name: Estranged V2 (instrumental demo)
If you tell me to shut up and just play a happy song
I'll just ignore you, cause you're part of what's wrong with this world

I know not everyone cares as much as they could
and won't do as much as they should
But come on now, put your best foot forward

Denying human rights - professing faith and courage
“The American Dream” in air quotations

Usurping freedom and liberty
isn't this the land of the free?
only if you behave
will it ever change?

they've done a great job of oppressing you, it's even voluntary on your part
Everyone can see it, except for you
being blindly patriotic… it’s not in your best interest, no

change
we need to change our ways
we’ve been led astray
they left us in confusion and that is not okay

Don’t tell me to relax and just trust the man
Saying he's doing what's best for us - that's just what he said
I know this might be hard to believe, but that man's job is to deceive us
And he made a perfect puppet out of you

denouncing truth and hiding the facts, spinning everything around
It's miracle we can make sense of anything at all
censorship has reached new highs but the wall will crumble when
there's a surge… from the other side

Betray! the words that they say - the words left in your brain
blind faith is not okay, it cripples you

change - we need to change our ways
but we've become estranged
left to feel confusion and that is not okay

betray! these words that they say - these words so engrained
blind faith is not okay - it cripples you, so say:

"I'm free to go my way, the way I feel inside
the way of open mind - away from your mistakes
away from your mistruths
away from you"
Track Name: House of Cards (instrumental demo)
This house of cards that we live within
Is precariously teetering
It could collapse at any moment

This situation we now find ourselves in
Has scarred our skin for no good reason
And now we're stretched too thin and sleep depriven

We never had to fight each other, until you told us it was necessary
We never had to spill any blood, until your actions led you to greed
We never had to worry about freedom until you tried to steal our liberty
We never had to worry about the truth until you put it under lock and key

You disrupt our lives with your wars and your lies
(Segregation through tribalism)
You won't defend our rights, only your bottom line
(Reject collusion embrace inclusion)

We never had to abandon our brethren until you said they had betrayed us
We never had to kill any strangers until you planted a grudge within our heads
We never had to disappoint our mothers until you told us they were too feeble to be saved
We never had to worry about this kingdom until you said you had run out of slaves

Your axis of evil tried to hold us down
But the power of people you can never drown
When we realize that we're being screwed
We rise up and defy you
Track Name: Here We Stand (instrumental demo)
Starving dog in the street, starving person in the street
What's the difference? You don't see any

But we can and we know
You shouldn’t be running this show
And now we rejoice as your empire crumbles around you

Here we stand a troop and a civilian
You are panicking now
cause you're winning battles but losing the war

You had your chance to embrace this
To make it work for you and so control it too
Instead you let your arrogance rule
Thought you could do whatever you wanted to

Dying fish in the sea
Impressionable kids watching TV
What's the difference?
One of them has money

We can see the corruption and apathy
No remorse for your polluting of our
Airways, waterways, radiowaves and brainwaves

Now that we are learning
From the viral spread of truth
We start the causes and follow through
Chip away at you, until you fall

We stand here just us two in this moment
And you'll flinch before I do because your motives are untrue
We're multiplying as a motivated whole
To end your corrupted control
Track Name: Balance (instrumental demo)
I'd like to see something different
Could you show it to me?
Show me a new idea
That will get me thinking

I'm too old to dream anymore
Professional life has only taught me to keep score
We lose the magic of our youth
Or never mature, never evolve

Got to strike a balance
Between your inner and your outer self
Don't be fooled to think
You have to choose between health and wealth

Community is all the wealth you need

I'd like to hear something unique
Could you play it for me?
I love the soul of your songs
That sooth all the way down to my feet

I stopped praying a long time ago
I'd rather just let reality flow
And never forget how to let go
Of the things you can't control

Got to strike a balance between pushing yourself and pulling things to you
Gotta strike a balance between feeling and healing
One needs the other
An inspired child and his supportive mother

Keep your word, don’t keep score
Inspire your peers don’t ask for more

Got to keep the peace
Between your sunny skies and your stormy seas
Everything you see and feel
Needs to have a place behind the wheel

There can always be something to say and something to feel
There will always be victories to enjoy and wounds to heal

I'd like to know something no one else cares about
Give the thought some love like we all deserve
Track Name: Plastic as Porcelain (instrumental demo)
Those who don't know any better
Mistake plastic for porcelain
And everyone with real inner beauty
Gets ignored for the molded parade

Chip away at the mold they made
To house you and your inherited insecurities

You want to be like somebody else
And so does the person that you idolize
But realize that there is just one you
Be true, no one can take that from you

It's a prison of thoughts, feelings and beliefs
You're not supposed to think on your own
They teach us from an early age
Just to belong, and stand for nothing

Vanity leads to insanity
We pop another quick-fix pill
We forget how to smile our real smile anymore
We stroke our hair and bare our teeth in their shimmering glory

You insist on hiding your scars and wrinkles
But they're far more real and human than a forced smile
When you accidentally show your vulnerable, human side
It’s seen as a weakness to be controlled with strict adherence

But we need to think and feel for ourselves sometimes
When their products cease to hide the void anymore

It's a prison of thoughts, feelings and beliefs
You're not supposed to feel adequate or real
They teach us from an early age
Just to follow along, but you can stand for something

You don't have to embrace their prefabricated ways
Plastic is not porcelain

For all my imperfections and impurities
I'll always find a way to still love me
Track Name: Silent Auction (instrumental demo)
selling ourselves short has become like a sport
fighting over our wants we sacrifice our needs

life isn't always easy, we can all agree
the ends don’t always justify the means
there is a clear difference between you and me
but it's not religion, race, gender or democracy

underpaid, overworked, rest denied, we’re still self assured
material holds its value to the greedy
compassion is more valuable to the needy

buying ourselves broke is no joke
it only results in sustaining greed
[so out of touch have become we humans]
fighting over wants only brings us to our knees
will we ever manage to stop the hemorraging?

everything has to have a price affixed
the more shiny, the more easily we're tricked
we just keep on paying the price
no price too high for sin and vice

we've been trained to sell ourselves
to lowest bidder with the best sales pitch
we only speak out about travesties
letting tragedies pass by silently

drop the remote, go out and vote
Please just have something meaningful to say

let's stop this silent auction of our lives
let's stop this mindless auction of our needs
we can stop these greed fueled bidding wars
rescue those who've been buried in poverty

they're driving us to the brink of collapse
a fire sale, take what you can and run
we need to take back control of this world
where a corporation can patent a seed
(and program it with the terminator gene)
Track Name: The Norm (instrumental demo)
we're all social misfits, some just hide it better than others
if we all had the same training, you could lie as well as I

Everyone is an actor
Who could win an award
Those who seem "real" are the fakest of all
It's fun to just watch them
Think they're so special
There's nothing that makes them
Special at all

Special is an illusion
Like many other things
A construct of society
An illusion that needs to change
We need to see things for what they really are
Without hidden agendas and secret scores

we're all social martyrs, some more obvious than others
if we all had the same raising, you'd be as screwed up as me
but what we consider screwed up is actually the norm
but who wants to admit that? Not you and not me

Everyone is a liar
Who could broker a war
Those seeking peace
That's not what they're really fighting for
It's really just for personal safety, personal gain
Anything but to shoulder the blame

Peace is a dream, nothing more
A memory from the past, before there was war
We need to see things for what they really are
But people's minds are made and we're going the wrong way

Special is an illusion
Like many other things
A construct of society
An illusion that needs to change
We need to see things for what they really are
But people's minds are made and we're going the wrong way

Peace is a dream, nothing more
A memory from the past, before there was war
We need to see things for what they really are
But people's minds are made and we're going the wrong way
Track Name: Social Paradigm (instrumental demo)
We crucify ourselves with lethal efficiency because its easy
Learned it from TV and those around me, it's all mockery
Then imitate and turn on my fellow man with my bare hands
And lash out with unrelenting words of hate and prejudice unfounded

The social paradigm
Personality crimes
Low brow
Reducing everyone to nothing
It has gotten so bad
The good times we used to have
Are just a memory now
And we forget how to live together

They crucify us, strip us of dignity when they get preachy
Learned from the b-i-b (l-e), taken literally without modern clarity
Perpetuate and recycle hate within the community there's no unity
A contest of popularity based on morality from which we are not free

This socially paralyzing dogma
Consciousness drought
Low culture
Shunned, you will be no hero
In these trying times
We’re all guilty of some sin
And in due time I will pay for my own
So please leave me to it

Can someone tell me what I’ve just seen?
Conflicting reports, I'm more confused than anything
I just want to know what's true as clear as transparent as can be
But even reality sometimes seems a fantasy
Because we can never see everything that fulfills a destiny

Keep searching
Track Name: Better Than You (instrumental demo)
I'm a better person than you
I'm a better version of you
I'm a better hire than you
I'm a better liar than you

I'm a better dancer than you
I'm a better cancer than you
I'm a better hero than you
I'm a better victim it's true

I've spent years earning my keep
There is no better sheep
But I don’t put it to good use
Instead faith is my excuse

I'm a better portrait of you
I'm a better poet than you
I'm a better debater than you
I'm a better dictator than you

I’m a better hunter than you
I've better answers than you
I'm the saviour, not you
And you’re the villain, yes you

It's sad but true
I’m just so much better than you
From birth to grave I’m a slave
It's both a blessing and a burden

I claim delusions as truth
Do you want to try and argue?
I wouldn't if I were you
I’m just better than you

But no matter what there may just be one way
That I'm not better than you
Close your fist, clench your teeth
We’ll find out If I'm a better survivor than you too
Track Name: Hold Your Pieces (instrumental demo)
If you have a chance to speak, please use it
Don't have to give a speech
Just try to move them

If you have a chance to act, please do it
Don’t have to be a hero
Just don’t let the chance go

Forever hold your pieces
So close to your chest
Do you believe that if one falls
You will lose the rest?

Forever hold your grievance
So deep in your heart
Do you believe that if you release it
You will feel nothing at all?

If you have a gut feeling, just trust it
Don’t ignore it, it’s trying to tell you something

If you have a chance to make it work, please do it
Doesn’t have to be a miracle
Just make it functional

Forever hold your pieces
So close to your chest
Do you believe that if one drops
You will lose the rest?

Forever hold your last breath
Compressed in your lungs
So afraid to exhale
But it's OK if you fail

Maybe you just need to make a connection
Initiate a personal resurrection

If you have a chance to speak, now’s the time
Say something worth saying
Make something worth saving

Please don’t hold your peace
Speak freely and free me
Track Name: Forge Yourself (instrumental demo)
I need to stop giving you all the power
You never asked for it, it’s just a bad habit of mine
Always caring too much about what you think
I've been trained to, but I could help it if I tried

It’s taught, like so many things
We have to unlearn and rethink
Find a better example to emulate

You’ll become a better person
The doubt melts away, clearing the way
For confidence to face your life today

Could we just sit calmly and not self seethe?
We take most of the damage from ourselves it seems
We never think that we are good enough
No love for self, that has to change

I need to stop letting you make me sour
You’re not trying to, I’m reacting poorly

It’s taught, like so many things
We have to unlearn and rethink
Find a better example to emulate

You’ve become a better person
Pushed the doubt away so it can't sway you
Now you wear the pride on your face

Can we just take it one breath at a time?
We’re stressed out, often too much on our minds
Sever thoughts that make your heart heavy
Less separation anxiety, more unity

You come from the same place as everybody
Our parents tried but it’s not solely their responsbility
To make us who exactly who we need to be
You need to make your own effort at maturity

It may seem like a dream, a fantasy that cannot be
But within me I know we are all capable

Let’s be self-satisfied but not selfish
Community and compassion are where the true wealth is
Let go of mistakes of the past, open a new door
Become the people we were meant to

Forge ourselves anew
